The current VPS from iniz.com was working fine, however it was suspended due to high IO! Meaning doing too much writing to disk. We have 10~30 gigabytes of incoming traffic a day, which I wouldn’t call too much writing because that is around 240 kilobytes a second, not a huge value. The problem could be with how we delete emails, using a DELETE SQL command which apparently does a lot of reads and writes. In the future I will consider using SQL partitioning. Each hour a new partition would be created and deleting old emails would be a matter of DROPping the oldest partition, resulting in minimal disk activity.
For the moment however, I already ordered the new server at a different company, Wholesale Internet Inc., and this time it is a dedicated machine. This should solve the server issues once and for all - at least that’s what I’m hoping for.
All this means that the site will be down for a couple of days unfortunately. The server will be ready in 1 or 2 business days, so the site could be down until next week.
